Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
