Large-scale Russian Strikes Cut Electricity Throughout Kyiv

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have come under increased attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's aerial assaults have resulted in power cuts in multiple districts of the capital city, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were hurt while inhabitants in eastern districts were experienced blackouts and dealt with interruptions to water supplies, as stated by local authorities.

At the same time, a young boy was lost their life in a distinct aerial attack in the southeastern region in the southern area, according to local officials.

Moscow has escalated attacks on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "substantial measures" from allies to increase pressure on Moscow.

"What is required is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the US, the EU and the Group of Seven - in delivering defensive weapons and implementing penalties," was stated in a social media post.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and over thirty missiles attacked energy facilities, labeling such assaults as "cynical and calculated" and against "critical infrastructure" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and repair crews were laboring to restore power.

A wave of strikes struck power facilities and civilian homes in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the strikes on the city have been hospitalized, per statements from city authorities.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region experienced intense attacks overnight. A seven-year-old child was killed and multiple civilians were injured.

The strikes come after periods of aerial attacks in the territory, parts of which remain under the control of Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is under warning for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to identify.

Government officials told reporters that Moscow was deliberately attempting to damage the country's energy grid, with assaults already disrupting fuel infrastructure.

He said energy workers and authorities were anticipating further attacks.
